Introduction
L&M Survey Services have the latest equipment and expertise required for the establishment of robust GPS control networks, prior to any large scale surveying or construction works. With the arrival of the national RTK network solution, accurate land surveying using RTK rovers has become more achievable and to utilise this network, we have invested in a fleet of RTK rovers. These tools can be used on various projects, including topographical surveys, engineering surveys, site setting out, quarry updates and volumetric surveys.
Case Study
Railway engineers First Nuttal utilised L&M’s GPS services on the construction of new railway line between Stirling and Kincardine in Central Scotland. Initially we created a 3-tiered control network of static GPS. We then established of fast-static GPS baseline triangles and then the traversing with a total station between these baselines.

Specialist Equipment
Leica SmartRover
For GPS Surveying, we use the SmartRover, the lightest cable-free RTK GNSS system on the market. Offering outstanding performance, it consists of the Leica SmartAntenna ATX 1230 (GG) and the Leica RX1250 X/Xc Controller. The Smart RTK guarantees the best performance of the complete GNSS system, ensuring results are consistent and traceable anywhere in the network. The atmospheric decorrelator technology provides precise positioning in all Networks regardless of the correction data.
Leica SmartStation
For combined topographical and GPS surveys, we use the world’s first total station with integrated GNSS/GPS. This high performance total station has a powerful GNSS/GPS receiver, while the RTK determines the position to centimetre accuracy within a few seconds at ranges up to 50km from a reference station. With less set-up time required and its general ease-of-use, the SmartStation is cost efficient through its increased productivity.
