Introduction
L&M Survey Services use the latest laser scanning and reflectorless technologies to provide highly accurate measured building surveys. We offer 2-D floor and elevation plans and produce full 3-D models of structures if required.
Case Study
In early 2006, L&M won a contract from the University of Strathclyde to carry out measured building surveys as part of the University’s asset management process. Internal floor plans and external elevations of 12 of the University’s buildings were required, together with a topographical survey of the whole campus.
Currently ongoing, our surveyors are producing 2-D Autocad F Plans and 2-D Autocad elevations from a combination of MBS software package, palm-top computers, laser scanning and reflectorless technologies. All the files are being attributed to link in with the University’s database.

Specialist Equipment
MBS Software
We use MBS Floor Plans which allows for the real time graphical capture of all the elements required for the accurate production of scale drawings of floor plans. With high productivity, high accuracy, graphical output for easy checking of missing information, and high flexibility for use with any type of building structure, this MBS software is the best available on the market today.
Leica SmartStation
For combined topographical and GPS surveys, we use the world’s first total station with integrated GNSS/GPS. This high performance total station has a powerful GNSS/GPS receiver, while the RTK determines the position to centimetre accuracy within a few seconds at ranges up to 50km from a reference station. With less set-up time required and its general ease-of-use, the SmartStation is cost efficient through its increased productivity.
Leica ScanStation
We were the first company in Europe to use the Leica ScanStation for measured building surveys. This fastest pulsed laser scanner has survey-grade tilt compensation which means lower project costs, greater field flexibility and higher project accuracy. With a capture range of up to 300m for 90% surface reflectivity, ScanStation delivers survey accuracy for each measurement and its ultra-fine scanning and small laser spot allow for optimal project control and registration.
