Case Study - Coast Road, North Tyneside

Once completed by the end of March 2019, this £75 million project will bring real benefits for drivers in the North Tyneside area and to the wider economy. The purpose of the scheme is to reduce traffic congestion at the junction of the A19 and the A1058 Coast Road in North Tyneside. This will be achieved by lowering the A19 beneath the existing A1058 Coast Road and roundabout. The construction work will involve the digging out of a new underpass to accommodate the A19, and the construction of three new structures to support the existing carriageways.

L&M Survey Services were invited to provide high accuracy monitoring of the works as well as high precision surveys of the carriageway and all iron works within the survey extents. The monitoring accuracy of 0.1 mm was a challenge as it was much higher than the monitoring works that we usually do but was executed well by L&M staff, who attended site from both the Doncaster and Kilmarnock offices. This high-profile project was a first for this particular client and they were pleased with the professional approach of the employees on site and the data that they delivered. So much so that we are currently in discussions for a framework agreement.
