Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry is the science of making measurements from photographs, especially for recovering the exact positions of surface points.

With over 30 years’ experience L&M Survey Services are leading the way in Photogrammetry. Photogrammetry is one of the oldest - yet most productive - methods of surveying. Traditionally the photos were captured using large, heavy cameras mounted to the hull of a manned aircraft but now with the evolution of small, lightweight, high-definition cameras that can be attached to UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) we can obtain measurements from positions impossible for humans to stand. Couple this with over 30 years of photogrammetry and surveying experience, and you have a means of surveying large areas very quickly and producing accurate, geo-referenced data.

While laser scanning provides plenty of information, not everyone can use the point cloud they produce, largely due to file sizes and software licensing costs. Photogrammetry, in many cases, provides a more cost-effective method to obtain the information you and your colleagues need safely, quickly and accurately.

The data produced from the images can result in an array of deliverables including point clouds, digital terrain models, surface meshes and geo-referenced orthophotos that can be used with widely used software like AutoCAD and Revit.
